Rescue Chicken

I adopted a rescue chicken. The Animal Rescue or Humane Society apparently went to a local farm to take away a number of dogs and the owner also had chickens in his basement.  Unfortunately this lone chicken was the only survivor. My neighbour brought her over and asked if I wanted to keep her, otherwise he was going to get rid of her. I had heard about the number of dogs the owner kept on the property and previously was a little worried they might wander over to my place and threaten the chickens or tangle with Teaka so I am glad the dogs will find better homes. There was a pig as well but I'm not sure if the pig stayed or was taken away.

We named our new chicken Mocha. Any worries I had on integrating a single chicken to the flock quickly went away. I kept Mocha separated only for one day, as the temperatures at night are too cold for one chicken by itself. She integrated herself by immediately jumping to the top roost bar, seemingly not too concerned with some fussing from the other chickens. Maybe she was happy to have found a new home and after all she was smart enough to have survived the conditions of her previous place which I imagine weren't the best.

I don't know how old Mocha is or her breed but she seems healthy. She does lay eggs so she may only be a year or two old. She keeps to herself and although she gets picked on by some of the other chickens she doesn't seem to be very daunted by it.

My orchid has been blooming for over 5 months now:
