Rachel, Rayna and Rosie

The new chickens are a handful. They came home on Tuesday.  Meet Rachel, Rayna and Rosie.  They are the most aggressive little hens that I have ever had.  Usually the young ones are docile and shy .... not these girls. They are from a different hatchery and maybe they needed to fend for themselves a bit more there. Rayna is the most aggressive, but at least they seem to stick together and protect each other.  I will let them settle in their own area for a week or two before physically introducing them to the others.  Right now they can see the current flock and are watching how they wander outside and where they go to lay their eggs and eat and sleep. Hopefully the new chickens will learn that there is enough room and food to satisfy everyone. I will also handle them a few times each day in hopes that they learn they don't need to bite and kick me.  If I had a rooster he would help discipline them, but the rooster won't be here until spring next year. There is a video of Thelma expressing her dislike of strangers in the henhouse.

Rosie gave us a little egg on day 2.
