Wolves howling at the moon? Not really.

The wolves were around this week at night/early morning, or so I thought.  I saw plenty of tracks around the yard and along the road in the fresh snowfall.  Some of the paw prints were very big, making me wonder how big the wolf was.  Last week I was watching the blood moon eclipse and heard howling in the distance and I thought it was due to the full moon, however, it is apparently a myth that wolves actually howl at the moon, so no link there other than I happened to hear them because I was outside at that time of night. There was also a set of tracks around the henhouse, which I lock at night. I had let the chickens out because we had two nice days and there were areas where the snow had melted, and perhaps the scent attracted the wolves. But then my I discovered that what I thought might be a wolf pack was likely the dog pack that was around in the fall. My neighbour sent me this photo of a dog that was howling outside her house all morning.  She thinks it was left behind from the pack.  I think it is the same dog that Teaka and I unintentionally cornered against the house when the pack came around the property in the fall, except he was a puppy then.

As a little adventure we took a trip to Lake Temiskaming.  The sun was shining and it was about 2 degrees and there were a few people/families ice fishing for March Break.

This big cow is endearingly known as Ms Claybelt and stands close to Hwy 11 in New Liskeard.  Teaka was very excited upon seeing her (being a cattle herding dog) but once she ran up and sniffed the statue, she suddenly lost interest in it. How disappointing for her that it was not real!

This beautiful owl was recently hanging out at my neighbour's house.

Fun Fact:

Did you know a part of France is only 25 km from Canada?  That would be Saint-Pierre Island and Miquelon-Langlade Island off the southern coast of Newfoundland.
