Belle Vallee Sky

Update Feb 27th: I saw my first North Sky lightshow early this morning.  It was not the colourful northern lights, more white lights flickering across the sky as the flames in a fire do.... pretty cool!

I saw my first shooting star of Belle Vallee.  I was inside looking out the window because it is too cold to be star gazing at -32 degree windchill.  In Josephsburg I would see shooting stars fairly often during my early morning walks with Teaka.  I even saw two meteors - the first one scared me as I had no idea in the moment what the big fireball was as it seemingly hurled toward me, standing in the middle of a farmer's field. And the second meteor I saw in November 2022 was so bright as it travelled overhead that it caused me to look up, otherwise I would have missed it.  Reports said it may have dropped meteorites in the Niagara Region.

Experiencing these wonders put humility in my heart as I realized how small we all are and how much more of the natural world is out there that I have no real knowledge of.  I am now fascinated by the sky and hope to do a photographic study of it as time permits - there is so much to do around here first.

Quite unintentional, my move to Belle Vallee has given me the opportunity to be further enamoured with the sky in the beautiful winter sunrises and sunsets.  The sun now rises on the other side of the hill surrounding the valley.  The valley is flat terrain which makes for a great view of the sky and cloud formations, I imagine a thunderstorm will be quite spectacular.

One of the outbuildings on my property I plan on making into a summer cabin - no plumbing as I don't want to get into building permits, and it already has electricity to it and it seems to have a solid frame.  The roof and walls need to be rebuilt.  I envision it having a partial transparent roof for star gazing purposes.  My first priority projects for this year are digging up an area for a vegetable garden and making a safe environment for the chickens.  Based on my research thus far, I will likely need to plan on having an electric fence to keep predators out.  I will see what I can salvage from the existing fencing that is on the property.
