Pileated Woodpecker
Before the snow came a few weeks ago this female pileated woodpecker was hanging around for a couple days. Pileated Woodpecker fun facts: They mate for life. They are the largest woodpecker in North America but only the 3rd largest in the world. Adult bird sizes range from 16 to 19 inches long with a wingspan of 26 to 30 inches. Males have a red patch on the side of the face. The oldest known pileated woodpecker lived to 12 years, 11 months in the wild.
